To All College-Bound Students and Their Parents:

Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could tell the "college cartel" where to stick it? College tuition these days is downright extortionate. You can easily find yourself chained to debt for years to come ... and all too often, with a degree that won't get you anywhere!

If you thought the mortgage crisis was bad, you ain't seen nothing yet. The coming student loan crisis will be far bigger, and people caught in this crisis could face impoverishment for decades to come. In 2010, student loan debt exceeded credit card debt for the first time ever. In 2012, it hit the $1 trillion mark.

This mountain of debt has the potential to sink the standard of living of an entire generation of college graduates ... including you or your loved ones ... unless you're savvy enough to avoid the pitfalls.

Here are just a few of the many real-life testimonies, submitted to the U.S. government, of people who were unwittingly caught in the college loan debt trap:

"It looks like I will be stuck living in a low-rate apartment for the rest of my life and drive a 15-year old car. ... These loans are a real burden."

"I am currently a public school teacher with an income of $50,000, barely enough income to pay the interest-only payments. ... I now owe $15,000 more than I borrowed."

"My original debt started at 56K. My loan has already grown to 76K. I am paying interest, but still continue to see my loan grow and grow. On my repayment terms, it states I will pay back my original principal four or five times."

"My husband and I pay over $1,000 a month in student loan fees. Unfortunately, it looks like we won't be in a position to buy a home until we are well into our 40s - about ten years. That pretty much nixes the idea of kids."

"I'm stuck with over $100,00 in debt, which qualifies as theft as I received nothing substantive in return."

Every year, millions of students take on debt loads that cripple them financially for years to come. Many drop out along the way or take six years or more to graduate, because tuition costs are so prohibitive. And here's what's really sad about it all ...

They Bought Into A
Big, Fat Lie

You know the lies I'm talking about. The lie that says you "have to" go to a 4-year, name-brand college to earn good money ... or you "have to" have the "college experience" (translation: party on your parents' dime) if you want to be a well-rounded adult ... or you "have to" get to college, no matter what the cost, because it's the only way you'll ever get ahead in life.

Yes, it's true that college graduates statistically out-earn their non-college counterparts ... but that's only part of the story.

The rest of the story is this: for literally millions of college graduates, the huge loans they take out will actually cause their standard of living to plummet after graduation.

Just ask Kelsey Griffith. According to a report in the New York Times, this marketing major recently graduated with $120,000 in student loan debt ... with no full time job lined up in her field. She gave up her apartment, moved back home with her parents, and works multiple jobs to pay her loans.

Even with a great job, student loans can often lead to borderline poverty

Ohio lawmaker Christina Hagan, reports the New York Times, has accumulated more than $65,000 in student loans plus credit card debt. She makes $60,000 a year, but still has to work a second job as a server in a restaurant to afford the $1,000 monthly payments.

How about Erin, a law school graduate profiled in Business Insider. She's on food stamps. She rides the bus because she can't afford a car. Her credit is shot. And she's a lawyer, for crying out loud! That's what student loan debt will do to you.

And then there are the dropouts - people who maxed out their borrowing early and couldn't afford to complete school. For them, it's a particularly vicious catch-22 ... they need a college degree to get a better paying job so they can pay off their loans, but they can't get the college degree because they can't borrow any more.

No wonder student loan default rates are skyrocketing. Consider these distressing numbers:

  • Almost one in ten default on student loans within the first two years.
  • 13% of borrowers default within three years.
  • The total percentage of loan defaults over the long term is somewhere between 17% and a shocking 49%.
  • That translates into at least one out of every six, and as much as one out of every two borrowers that have defaulted on student loans.

Sure, you could walk away from your debt. But it's not honest, and it will destroy your credit. A bad credit rating makes it hard to buy a home or a car, or rent an apartment. Some potential employers even check your credit before deciding whether or not to offer you a job, and if you have bad credit ... you're out of the running. And to top it off, if you blow off your loan payments, lenders will make your life a living hell.

Bill collectors, by the way, love school loan defaults. It's their new cash cow. And they leave no stone unturned in pursuit of payment. They can garnish your wages, your tax refunds, even your Social Security and disability checks. And, oh, by the way, you can forget about bankruptcy. Because here's something else nobody tells you:

Even If You Declare Bankruptcy,
You Have To Pay Back Your School Loans

Technically, you can get a school loan discharged in bankruptcy for "undue hardship." In reality, almost nobody ever qualifies. Take the case of Nick Keith, who was profiled in Business Insider. His school loan debt is well over $100,000 and growing at a crippling 17% per year.

Keith started out at a state university's engineering program on borrowed money, then dropped out and switched to culinary school. Culinary certificate in hand, he was only able to find work in the field paying $10 an hour - a far cry from the income he'd been led to expect. He stopped paying, later became disabled, and eventually became homeless. He collects used soda cans to put a little cash in his pocket. Yet he still has creditors who manage to track him down and hound him to pay back his loans.

Stories like these abound, and yes, they are indeed tragic. But there's something even more appalling going on, and you're not likely to hear about it from colleges or lenders. Some people have gotten so desperate to pay for college that they've turned to the world's oldest profession.

Hundreds Of Thousands Of Desperate College Students Are Actually
Turning To Prostitution To Pay
Their College Bills.

New Trend: Sugar Daddies, Not Scholarships

Numerous online organizations match up college students with sugar daddies. The numbers are astounding. In 2011, one such online matching service reported over 179,000 college students on their rolls seeking these types of relationships. These were students attending well-known schools like Harvard, UCLA, Berkeley, Tulane, and New York University. And that's just one such company. There are dozens more.
Source: "Seeking Arrangement: College Students Using 'Sugar Daddies' To Pay Off Loan Debt," HuffingtonPost.com, published July of 2011.

Well-respected newspapers have reported on this disturbing trend. These aren't the poor and marginalized segments of the population we're talking about; usually, they're "the girl next door." Hundreds of thousands of broke college students are actively soliciting "sugar daddy" relationships in order to pay their tuition fees and loans. Mostly young women (but sometimes young men) seek out rich, older "patrons" who are willing to shell out the cash for "dates" or, ideally, longer term arrangements, so that they can pay their tuition or pay off their loans.

We used to call that prostitution. But young women today, desperate to pay for college, don't use that word. But here's what's even worse.

It may all be for naught.

Many young people are becoming debt slaves - or worse - and it's often for nothing more than a pipe dream. Because while it's true that a college education can help many people get ahead in life, it's not an automatic ticket to success or riches.

In fact, unless you know about the secrets revealed in Secret College Loopholes: No B.S. Ways To Get Through College With Very Little Money ... unless you choose the right school for the right reasons with the right price tag ... the opposite is true. Consider these dismal facts:

Unhappy college student
Over 317,000 college graduates are waiting tables instead of working in their field of study.
Fact #1: In 2011, over half (53%) of graduates aged 25 and under with a bachelor's degree were unemployed or underemployed.

Fact #2: In the U.S. today, approximately 317,000 restaurant servers, about 365,000 cashiers, and over 100,000 janitors have college degrees.

Fact #3: If you are a recent law school graduate, you are twice as likely to be unemployed as the average American.

Sadly, too many college students, along with their parents, have bought into the lie that college offers a free pass into the land of milk and honey.

Am I saying you shouldn't go to college?

College can be a great investment in your future, if you know what you're doing. If you're extremely discriminating about how you approach it.

But you have to keep this very important fact in mind at all times:

A College Or University's
Number One Goal Is Not To Educate You.

Let me repeat that. A college or university's number one goal isn't to educate you. It's to enroll as many students as possible for as long as possible to keep the money coming in. If their primary purpose were simply education, college administrations would be handling their budgets a whole lot differently, making it truly more affordable (not just the shell game they have going on now) for more people. Here are five common ways colleges and universities run up your tab - ways that don't contribute to your education one little bit ... but you can bet they benefit the institution.

Some degrees are taking several years longer, costing more than expected
Degrees that used to take 4 years to get now commonly take as long as 6 ... costing students 50% more than they bargained for.
  • They don't seriously look for ways to cut costs and pass savings on to you. The reason? Even with name-brand recognition and a high quality education, they fear that lower tuition costs make them look second-rate, not top tier. (This is called the "Chivas Regal" effect, and you'll learn more about it in Chapter 3 of Secret College Loopholes.)
  • Schools no longer promote four-year degrees. In fact, most will publish only six-year graduation rates. They don't offer enough openings in required classes, which means students have to wait another semester or year to take them. And if those delayed classes are prerequisites for higher-level courses, it delays students even longer. When it comes to college, time really is money. The longer you stay enrolled, of course, the higher the tab. (On the other hand, you can make time work for you and get through school faster - Secret College Loopholes reveals a number of shortcuts.)
  • Athletics programs often lose money instead of being a net gain for the school. It gives them prestige, but not much else. For instance, the "Big Ten" for college athletics spend an average of $111,620 per athlete (not even counting the capital costs of building stadiums and athletic facilities) while spending just $18,406 per student on academics. Only about half of these programs ever contribute revenue for the school. (Chapter 3 gives you all the sorry details.)
  • Colleges give you a hard time about accepting transfer credits. They'd rather make you take the course again so they can get more money out of you. (See Chapter 9 for ways to work around this.)
  • Many colleges and universities require freshmen to live in expensive campus housing and use the university's cafeteria meal plans (which can cost you as much as $11 per meal). You can live much more cheaply off campus, of course ... but then they wouldn't make as much money off of you. (There's a way to avoid playing that game, as you'll discover in Chapter 16.)

I Don't Want To Flog You To
Death With The Bad News...
So Here's The Good News.

Savvy students graduate from college debt-free all the time ... without sacrificing the quality of their education one bit.

Elizabeth C., a college student in Maryland, is the perfect example of a student who's done college the smart way. Elizabeth used a number of techniques revealed in Secret College Loopholes.

College-BoundSlash college costs and you'll be able to buy a home much sooner.
  • First she began taking community college classes while still in high school. (You'll learn about these types of programs in Chapter 12.) She also worked part time and socked away as much money as possible.
  • She also took AP exams for credit. By the time she was handed her high school diploma, she was already technically a college sophomore.
  • She did her sophomore year at the local community college. (We cover community colleges extensively in the manual so you can make the most of this often overlooked resource.)
  • She then enrolled in her state's flagship university - with a twist. She enrolled in the branch of her state university that offered all its classes online. (We show you how to tap into the distance learning trend to save thousands.)
  • She applied for and got a generous academic scholarship that paid 50% of her tuition for junior and senior year. (We'll talk about scholarships, too, of course ... and why they're not always all they're cracked up to be.)
  • Although she was chomping at the bit to move out and get her own place, she instead chose to live at home and work part time. (If you can't live at home, we reveal your next best choice.)
  • She investigated employer tuition benefits, and every semester, submitted paperwork proving that her classes were related to her employment. Her employer picked up the tab for even more of her tuition. (See Chapter 20 for details about this little known approach.)
At this writing, Elizabeth is on track to graduate before she turns 21 ... and her schooling cost her very little out of pocket. In fact, she saved so much money that by the time she graduates college (at least a year ahead of most students), she'll have amassed enough in savings to put a hefty down payment on a single family home.

Jeff R. graduated from college completely debt free. Today he's a financial planner, but he didn't have any special inside information when he avoided college debt. How did he do it?

First, he was very intentional about his choice. Recognizing that in-state schools cost a fraction of out-of-state schools, he elected to attend a university within commuting distance of his home. Then he lived at home with his parents all four years. He held multiple part time jobs, often sacrificing a social life for working double shifts on weekends. Jeff now has the satisfaction of knowing he got his education without loans or government aid of any kind.

And then there's the case of the college student who accumulated ...

40 College Credits ... In 90 Days!

Some students get incredibly focused and creative. A reporter on Examiner.com described how his brother, a police dispatcher with only 22 college credits under his belt, needed to have an associate's degree to qualify for a police officer job that was opening up in five months' time. Going the traditional route just wasn't going to work. He wouldn't have enough time.

Then he learned he could take a special series of tests, about $100 per test, that award college credit. These tests are one of the biggest embargoed secrets that colleges and universities won't share with you. Not only do they save you money, they can save you years.

The aspiring police officer bought study guides, crammed for the tests, and in just 90 days accumulated over 40 college credits. (Read Chapter 15, and you'll get every detail you need to known about this little-known test-for-credit method.)

The Embargoed Money-Saving Secrets
In This Manual Work Just As Well For Non-Traditional Students Too

If you're one of the many adults who would like to go back to school ... but money and time have been holding you back ... you'll find practical, creative, and workable solutions throughout this manual.

You see, because many of these cost-saving methods aren't exactly mainstream, they aren't tied into the old paradigm of moving away from home and attending a bricks and mortar institution for four years.

Let me be clear, though. I'm not talking about diploma mills. Many of the strategies in this manual can be applied to just about any institution of higher learning that you choose - whether it's your local community college, a state school, or an Ivy League university.

Plus, you'll find that many of the cost-saving methods in this manual are amazingly adaptable for people who work, for parents, or anyone who has real-world adult responsibilities to meet.

Secrets to higher education at lower costs

These Secret Strategies
Are Not For Everybody...

In fact, speaking of adult responsibilities, let me add this disclaimer:

The strategies revealed in this manual are only for students who are serious about getting a college education and who are willing to approach their higher education with a cost-benefit mindset. These strategies are not for people with a sense of entitlement, or who are unwilling to "think outside the box" when it comes to acquiring a top-notch education.

Secret College Loopholes turns everything you thought you knew about college on its head. This manual - despised by college admissions deans - shatters the big 6 myths about college that end up leaving young people indebted and disheartened. (And that's just Chapter One.)

Here's what else you'll discover:

  • 6 skills you must have before you're ready for college, or you're wasting every penny.
  • Why college costs so much. Prepare to be astounded ... and infuriated!
  • How to determine if you really "need" to get into a prestige school ... and how to do it less expensively.
  • How easy it is to slide into college loan debt ... and how hard it is to climb out.
  • Cost-effective alternatives to traditional 4-year degrees that can set you up for an equally successful life.
  • 15 proven, cost-cutting measures that will slash your college costs (you'll find all the details in Chapters 10 through 24).
  • Why scholarships aren't all they're cracked up to be, and how you should approach them.
  • How to stop blindly accepting everything colleges tell you and take charge of your own education.
  • How to become financially independent - even if you're not college material.
  • How to make sure the odds of finding a job will be in your favor when you graduate.
  • Everything you need to know about internships.
  • Four ways to balance college with work.
  • Beyond college: how to package yourself for career success.
Secret College Loopholes is packed with practical tips, strategies, and information like this:

Skip the four-year degree - go for an associate's degree instead and claim one of these high paying jobs:

Claims Adjustor $58,460
Computer Support $46,260
Dental hygienist $68,250
Engineering Technician $56,040
Paralegal $46,680
Radiologic Technologist $54,340
Registered Nurse $64,690
Telecomm Equip Installer $54,710

Your College Degree Will Be Completely Worthless Unless You Keep This Very Important Fact
In Mind.

Fact: A college degree - whether it's an associates, bachelors, graduate, or professional degree - is nothing more than a tool.

A tool is only as good as the one who uses it. The degree alone is no guarantee of "the good life."

That's why you must wield your tool with drive, creativity, and a solid work ethic.

In fact, most employers don't care which college you've attended, as long as you can prove to them you can do the job. Attending Harvard or Yale or MIT is not going to score you points with over 90% of employers.

That's why we've included extremely important material in this manual that takes you beyond the degree. In the all-important final chapter, you'll discover how to make the transition from student to independent adult.

The chapter includes valuable job search tips, how to research potential employers, how to shine in an interview, how to negotiate compensation, and more. You'll learn to leverage your college experience so that it allows you to stand out from a sea of candidates.

And What If You're Not
"College Material"?

Alternatives for cutting college costsLet's be honest - college isn't for everyone. But that doesn't mean a non-college graduate is doomed to a lower income bracket.

We've included two full chapters on smart alternatives to college. One lists high paying jobs that don't require a four-year degree. The other looks at entrepreneurship as an alternative. (In fact, for many young people, entrepreneurship will teach them more than college ever could.)

Many of the world's greatest entrepreneurs never completed college. It's pretty well known that neither Steve Jobs nor Bill Gates completed college. But what's less known is how many others never did either. Many successful people never went to college at all. People like Rush Limbaugh, Charles Lindbergh, John Glenn, Andrew Carnegie, Rachel Ray, Walt Disney, J.K. Rowling, David Oreck, Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Dell, Peter Jennings, Annie Liebovitz ... the list goes on and on. And there are many, many more that aren't household names but have also gone on to great success.

Keep in mind, though, that just because you're not ready for college today doesn't mean you should never go to college. Many people find that getting out in the world and getting some real-life experience actually better prepares them mentally and financially to succeed at college later.

In fact, it bears repeating. Secret College Loopholes is especially helpful for people who attend college later in life. The traditional 4-years-on-campus experience just isn't the right fit for their life (not to mention their bank account).

Here are some more of the blockbuster secrets the "college cartel" doesn't want you to know about:

  • How an 18-year old student can earn an accredited B.A. in six months for just $5000.
  • How you can use the same techniques to save yourself (or your kids) tens of thousands of dollars.
